What are miniature porcelain dolls?

They're small handmade dolls with porcelain heads, arms and legs and a cloth, stuffing filled torso.

Most people create Miniature porcelain dolls to put into dollhouses or to be part of shadow box displays. These dolls, however, can also be displayed by themselves as works of art.

When creating miniature porcelain dolls, you can start either completely from scratch, or you can buy a doll making kit, which comes with all the supplies you'd need to make your very own doll.

If you decide to start from scratch, you will need to make sure you have the proper equipment and materials, such as body part molds, liquid porcelain, etc. Items created from liquid porcelain need to be kiln-fired, though there is also clay that air dries for those of you who do not have access to a kiln.

Once you have created the body parts, attach them with crafting glue to the cloth body. To make your doll more flexable, you can also add wire to the upper portions of the arms and legs where they attach to the cloth.Once everything is dry, you can then start adding paint, clothing and hair to create your own unique miniature porcelain doll.

If you are not too comfortable with making your own doll, a kit will typically come with pre-made body parts and material for sewing the torso.

You can find kits with pre-painted body parts, as well as ones that allow you to paint the base porcelain to your liking; even if the body parts are pre-painted, you can always re-paint them.

Once you have the body decided, you can then design and create your own clothing for your miniature porcelain doll.

Whatever method you decide to use to create your dolls, the next step is deciding what accessories to use.

Do you want your doll to appear older, or maybe as a child or a young business woman? Accessories can do just as much to create these looks as the actual clothing to build the character of the doll.

Once you have your accessories decided, it's time to pick a place for your doll to reside as it's admired by your family and friends. Making miniature porcelain dolls is an addictive hobby, so if you're just starting out, you can be sure that your shelf or display cabinet will quickly be filled with tiny new friends.
